Evaluation & Reflection (Power) (For Submission)

Now that I have completed the artefact I can comfortably say that I am happy with it. The criteria that I am adhering to is whether it made the audience feel the style of emotion I was hoping for, does it show the power that words have on people and finally whether or not it looks and sounds professional. In my eyes all of these aims were achieved, the emotional response I gained while displaying my film was that each of these letters had a very powerful effect on them. The only creative criticism I gained was that perhaps I should use a variety of different people to read each one aloud, and maybe have more emotion from each voice. Since I had already taken this into account before I filmed the artefact, I was able to easily explain my decision not to do these techniques. Another comment that was made was made was perhaps it was a little to long. This is an important statement to consider as if the audience get bored of the footage or get distracted while watching it, then the entire effect would be lost.

Not only did the artefact fit my own personal criteria, but it also fitted the criteria for the module. It was between 1 and 3 minutes in length, it was all entirely my own footage, and it was relevant to the subject heading of Power. I also feel it relates to some of Michel Foucault’s theories about the effects that people’s actions have on those around them.

“People know what they do; frequently they know why they do what they do; but what they don’t know is what what they do does.” (Michel Foucault, Madness and Civilization: A History of insanity in the Age of Reason)
